Tiger Woods one of the most prominent sports figures on the
scene today. Arguably one of the most recognizable faces throughout
the world, has finally published his first book with the assistance
of the editors at Golf Digest.
TheGolfExpert's review: This book is not necessarily
intended for the Tiger Woods fan although there are hundreds
of really excellent full colour pictures of Tiger in his finest
form. This book is primarily intended to be used by golfers
of all handicaps to improve their game. Tiger attempts to
explain how he does things on the golf course so that you,
the amateur
golfer, can replicate them and improve your score. The book
is very successful in accomplishing this task. It is well
written and very descriptive such that there is no doubt in
the readers mind how to place your fingers on the club or
exactly what the intended target is. Although I am sure that
it was intended to appeal to the younger generation of golfers,
any golfer of any age and any handicap
can take lessons from this book and shave a few strokes. It
is broken up into separate parts of the game: putting, chipping,
irons, woods, sand, etc. All lessons are easy to follow and
there are usually drills outlined to help you practice the
techniques explained in words. Many useful photographs also
assist in communicating each tip, lesson, or drill to the
reader. All the fundamentals are covered extremely well but
the editors also made sure that the more experienced golfer
could take something from this book as well and made sure
that the more advanced topics (chipping with a 3-wood, stingers,
and knock-downs) are covered in detail.
I found it interesting, although not surprising, that two
full chapters are dedicated to golf's mental game (chapter
9 - How to stay in control and chapter 10 - How to master
the mind). So many of Tiger's victories are a result of his
ability to shut out the crowds and come up with the "biggest
shot of his career" time and time again to win tournament
after tournament. These chapters provide a little extra insight
for most of us who do not have the benefit of a personal sports
psychologist.
Tiger Woods' instructional book, "How I Play Golf"
is easily the most understandable and useful golf instruction
book I have read in a long time. The obvious comparisons are
to David Leadbetter's books but Tiger's is far easier to understand
and a lot nicer to look at as an added bonus. - TheGolfExpert.com
