| What an experience! I managed
to score a free round at the famed Devil's Pulpit,
a very exclusive private facility about 45 minutes
north of Toronto.
From the moment you pull up to the front gates,
the feeling of prestige overwhelms you. I felt
like I was driving up to Augusta or Pine Valley.
The staff is ultra friendly and overall the whole
facility is Grade "A".
The locker rooms are what one would expect from
such a club; beautifully
decorated with all the amenities. I started off
by hitting balls at the practice range. First
class all the way with clearly marked greens and
beautiful tee blocks.
The first hole is apparently one of the most
photographed in Canada - clearly a result of the
picturesque surrounds and awesome layout. The
course was very well manicured and my only complaint
was that the bunkers, filled with Ohio white sand,
were not always raked by previous players.
The greens were lightning fast. I couldn't quite
get the speed down and three putted four times.
The rough was also very demanding as it was so
thick. Chipping from the rough was just about
out of the question.
The final hole is a demanding par four plays
like a short par five. In fact, until this year
it used to be a par five. I made a par after chipping
in off the green which capped off an extremely
enjoyable experience.
In summery, everything about The Pulpit is quality.
The $50,000 initiation fee prevents me from ever
becoming a member. However, I must say it rates
as
one of the top courses I have ever played both
in beauty and difficulty. Hopefully I'll get the
chance one day to re-live the experience. Highly
recommended.
Best Hole: #18
Why: 485 yard par 4. I got a
par!
